Introduction
The existence of Mandailing has been recognized since 14th century based on the word of honor of Palapa Gadjah Mada on verse 13 Kakawin Negarakertagama by Mpu Prapanca as the expansion territory of Majapahit in 1287 Caka (1365 AD). The Kakawin hand writing was found at Pura Cakranegara Lombok and afterward, Dr. J. Brandes from Holland published it in 1902 based on its origin language and letter with the title Negara Kertagama, loftdicht van Prapanca op koning Radjasanagara, Hajam Wuruk van Majapahit (Lubis, 1986 : II, 1) (more…)

ABSTRACT
This Paper attemps to explain the themes of environmental design at riverbank areas esspecially south east asia. The community who has been living at the riverbank areas have an unique culture with unique perception too about water and river. For the people who have been living at riverbank areas, water and river not only as essential contex of their life but also contain of spiritual values. Human and water have been related since the beginning of the mankind. The important learning from this study is related to two big themes 1). Water and River 2). Waterbank Areas.

ABSTRAK
Permukiman di sekitar Candi Sukuh yang terletak di lereng Gunung Lawu, Solo, Jawa tengah, merupakan kawasan permukiman tradisional yang memiliki fenomena teritorialitas dan seting menarik untuk di teliti. Teritorialitas desa dan rumah yang cukup menonjol dengan perbedaan-perbedaan yang unik melalui penandaan teritori menjadikan kawasan ini memiliki ciri teritori tersendiri. Demikian juga dengan aktivitas masyarakatnya yang membentuk sistem seting tertentu baik di lingkungan desa maupun di lingkungan rumah-rumah.
